The European Union does not have unified stance when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija and that is why one should not expect a swift reaching of an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, analyst Branko Rudin told Serbian national broadcaster RTS.

“Format of Kosovo representation on the international plan is limited, however there are different interpretations from Bulgaria to Spain, which are diametrically opposing. The EU has no united stance, the majority of the member states did recognize Kosovo, however there is no consensus about that. It does not go to Serbia’s favor to quarrel with Bulgaria, but it had to be clearly said, what is accurate and what is not,” Radun said.

Commenting on the new EU High Representative that should be Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell Radun said “that the EU is not a state in the true meaning of that word. It moved ahead of purely economic zone, has institutions, but is not a state, not even a confederation. That is why its officials bring along some their national politics. Somebody leading the European diplomacy will not conduct the policy of his mother state, however, he won’t work against it either,” Radun explained.

Speaking about the forthcoming visit of the French President Emanuel Macron to Serbia, Radun believes the topics would include Kosovo as well, however the European integration would be a priority. According to him, since the Berlin meeting, European diplomacy is trying “to catch a train” and shows it is still important, without much success though, given that Kosovo Albanians rely on other centers of power.
