Djilas: McAllister won’t call situation in Serbia by real name (FoNet, N1)
Serbian opposition leader Dragan Djilas said on Monday that European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman David McAllister knows exactly what is happening in Serbia but refuses to call things by their real name, FoNet news agency reports.
The leader of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP) issued a written statement saying that if McAllister really wanted to hear about the situation in Serbia he should met with the expert team of the “1 in 5 Million” protest as well as representatives of all political parties and of the people who have been staging protests for the past eight months.
“The reasons for the boycott of parliament were best defined in the European Commission report which expressed concern about parliament, freedom of expression and the fight against organized crime,” Djilas said responding to McAllister’s statement that parliament is the place for a democratic debate.
According to Djilas, the announcement that the next European Commission report on Serbia will include recommendations for free and fair elections is an admission by the European Union that there are no conditions for normal elections in Serbia.
