Drecun: Kosovo Albanians not ready to sit at the negotiating table (RTS)

Chairman of the Serbian Assembly Committee for KiM Milovan Drecun told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that the purpose of the elections in Kosovo is to stabilize the Albanian political scene, to build an executive that will be more unified on key political issues and have a firmer position for talks with Belgrade. Drecun adds that one cannot see willingness among existing Albanian leaders to sit at the negotiating table and seriously engage in talks with Serbia. Milovan Drecun, a guest on RTS's Morning News, stated that there were no new political actors in the Kosovo's upcoming elections. "The problem is that by their actions so far and by announcing how they will behave after the election; they give the impression that they are simply not committed to finding the final compromise solution for Kosovo. Here the only hope are the US and other countries," Drecun explained. According to Drecun, Germany is moving closer to American and French positions. According to him, Germany has softened its stance on the conditions Serbia has to meet for EU membership when it comes to dialogue with Pristina. "We heard one more thing from Chancellor Angela Merkel where she slightly softened her stance because she said that some things need to be done about Kosovo if we want EU membership, it is not that firm position that Serbia simply has to recognize a self-proclaimed Kosovo through a legally binding agreement. And if this is a new direction, then she is approaching both the American and French positions, that the solution must be a compromise," Drecun said.
