O’Connell: Serbs should not be afraid, no one intends to conquer north (Prva TV, KIM Radio)

UK Ambassador in Pristina, Ruairi O’Connell said Serbs in Kosovo should not be afraid of decision to establish Kosovo army, since, as he said, he believes there is no intention to use this army against them, Prva TV reports. He also added, his country does not consider the process to be disputable, since according to him “Kosovo is independent, sovereign state, and as such it can establish armed forces if it wishes so.” “The mere fact there are armed forces is neither negative nor destabilizing matter.

North Kosovo town adorned with Serbian flags as "a response" to Pristina's US flags (B92, Tanjug)

Vucic to visit Ground Safety Zone (B92, Beta, RTS)

President of Serbia and Supreme Commander Aleksandar Vucic will visit Serbian Army units in the Ground Safety Zone and elsewhere in southern Serbia, reports Serbian media.

The visit will happen "in the next 72 hours," reports said late on Thursday.

The Ground Safety Zone was established after the 1999 war and runs along the administrative line between Kosovo and central Serbia.

One day prior to the voting in Kosovo Assembly on laws foreseeing transformation of Kosovo Security Forces (KSF), there are different stances among Serbs and Albanians, whether Kosovo needs the army or not. Igor Simic from Srpska Lista thinks that the international community remains silent on violation of the Kosovo Constitution and Resolution 1244, while Sadri Ferati thinks Belgrade uses Kosovo Serbs for its political goals. Belgrade calls on 53 states to prevent creation of Kosovo army (TV N1)

Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin wrote a letter to his counterparts in 53 states asking them to prevent Kosovo from forming its army, TV N1 reports. A statement from his office said Vulin sent those letters "so that no one could claim one day they did not know what was happening in Kosovo.” “What is worrying is the news on Kosovo army being formed, which is an attempt to create yet another paramilitary unit in Kosovo,” the statement quoted Vulin as saying.
