The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said at the “Launching Westminster program for democracy in Kosovo” that Kosovo institutions should not have positions for people who are under investigation. “They should not be included in the election lists either,” Thaci said.

His initiative to adopt a code for decriminalization of the political scene in Kosovo was also supported by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Kosovo, Ruairi O’Connell. He said that surveys show that political parties are the least trusted by the citizens. “This fact is very concerning for the Great Britain. Therefore, we have offered our experience for the political parties to become more responsible and transparent and to fight the evil together,” O’Connell said.

“The population should demand more from the elected representatives and it should hold them accountable,” he stressed.

O’Connell expressed full agreement with President Thaci’s initiative to adopt a code for decriminalization of political parties.

It was said that the intention of this conference is to help democratic processes in Kosovo and to influence political parties to increase financing transparency, accountability and responsibility toward the voters.
