In a conference on the role of the Kosovo Security Force taking place in Pristina today, President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci said he has asked Assembly President Kadri Veseli in a letter sent today to “disregard” the draft law for KSF transformation and give more time for securing the support from strategic partners and all other stakeholders so that KSF is transformed through constitutional changes.  Thaci said his initiative to transform the KSF through a draft law was “legitimate” and came after all other possibilities were deemed exhausted. “This action was not coincidental or hasty but it was well-thought and was a result of the incapacity of our institutions and strategic partners to establish Kosovo army. Representatives of the Serbian List boycotted the Assembly for six months which made securing their support impossible,” Thaci said. He added that it was his duty as president to establish Kosovo army together with other relevant institutions but at the same time to also preserve international partnership. “The U.S. considers efforts ought to be made to establish the army through constitutional changes. Our institutions have still sufficient time to make one last effort to secure the support of communities for establishment of armed forces.”
