Most news websites report that Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has condemned the incident during which Kosovo’s Ambassador to Washington, Vlora Citaku, was pelted with eggs. Citaku had posted on Facebook that she was attacked by an Albanian activist in the U.S., who had called her a murderer because of the death of Vetevendosje activist Astrit Dehari while in detention. The incident occurred during a discussion at “Denver Women in International Security”. In his reaction to the incident, President Thaci said: “the freedom of expression and opinion is a basic democratic right respected by all. This right should not be misused by anyone and no one’s integrity should be violated, let alone the integrity of a state official of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. Misusing the freedom of expression and accompanying it with violence automatically turns into a despicable and condemnable act and such was yesterday’s incident involving Kosovo’s ambassador to Washington, Vlora Citaku. The insult and attack against Ambassador Citaku was another low attempt to damage Kosovo’s image on the international arena. Those that incite and carry out such despicable acts should feel ashamed”.
