Veseli: Institutions will be established on August 3rd

(RTK1)

PDK chairman Kadri Veseli said they will establish country institutions on August 3rd, stressing that PAN Coalition will form the Government and it will elect the Assembly Speaker.

In a statement to KosovaPress, the PDK chairman said that there will be no prolongation on establishment of institutions and that they have already made all the preparations for Kosovo to have new institutions after August 3rd.

Responding to LDK and Vetëvendosje that they will not enter a coalition that PDK is part of and their approximation, Veseli said it is good that VV and LDK got closer to each other because, according to him, these two parties have blocked Kosovo for many years – the former by not taking any decision and the latter by proving each day that it is ready to change positions only in order to come into power.

“All the preparations are being made based on the Constitution, laws and Assembly’s regulation and on August 3rd Kosovo institutions will be established, namely the Assembly, the new Assembly Speaker and the new Prime Minister of Kosovo, namely Ramush Haradinaj,” Veseli said.

PDK believes that Veseli will be elected in first round

(KTV)

Although  the PAN Coalition still has not made Kadri Veseli’s candidacy for Assembly Speaker official, Assembly performance monitors say that Veseli‘s election as Assembly Speaker will not be easy at all.

Albert Krasniqi of the Kosovo Democratic Institute mentioned situations that might block electing the PDK proposed candidate. Krasniqi said that the initial obstacle could be if there will not participate 61 MPs in the August 3 session.

Isuf Zejna of Democracy Plus thinks that if Assembly Speaker fails to be elected in the first round, PAN Coalition should propose an acceptable candidate for all parties.

However, PDK MP Xhavit Haliti is confident that Kadri Veseli, as PDK’s favourite candidate for Assembly Speaker, will be elected already in the first round.

On the other hand, VV and LDK have stated that they will not vote for Kadri Veseli as Assembly Speaker by any means. One day ago, the LDK leader Isa Mustafa said that the LDK-AKR- Alternativa (LAA) Coalition has decided not to vote for Veseli as Assembly Speaker.

Kosovo meets more requirements for UNESCO admission

(KTV)

A few weeks are left before Kosovo applies to join UNESCO, following the refusal which happened two years ago.

However, according to cultural heritage organisations, Kosovo diplomacy nor other institutions have not done anything ever since to accomplish their tasks.

The failure to pass Law on Religious Freedoms, Law on Cultural Heritage, and failure to address three issues on religious monuments, jeopardise Kosovo to remain outside UNESCO.

According to those organisations, having in mind the current political situation in the country and the short deadline, the likelihood for admission is small. Consequently, this would be a heavier strike against Kosovo in the international arena.

NGOs that deal with cultural heritage say that the relevant institutions have failed to retain cultural heritage monuments, and consequently, many of them are in danger of destruction or degradation.

On the other hand, caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Enver Hoxhaj is convinced that upon establishment of the new Government, all obligations will be fulfilled, so that Kosovo can be ready to apply in August or September.

Embassies of Germany and France back Apostolova’s decision

(Klan Kosova)

Germany and France gave their full support the European Union Special Representative in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, in her decision of suspending the 7.8 million euro financial support to Mitrovica/Mitrovicë north. This was made public through a press release, Klan Kosova reported.

The press release, issued by the Embassy of France in Prishtinë/Pristina also on behalf of the German Embassy, reads: “Indeed, the EU Office emphasizes that the local authorities did not respect the conditions that were mutually agreed upon, namely the removal of illegal buildings and the free access to all working areas.”

“The use of EU funds provided for the benefit of the local population must be transparent and supervised and follow the stipulations laid down in the contract between the Municipality of Mitrovica/Mitrovicë and the EU Office,” the Embassies’ press release concludes.

Russian Humanitarian Mission operating in north Kosovo

(Klan Kosova)

Russian Humanitarian Mission NGO is operating in north Kosovo. The interesting thing is that the NGO is led by Yevgeny Primakov, a descendent  of Russian Prime Minister with the same name, who visited north Mitrovica/Mitrovicë on Wednesday. The young Primakov was received in the headquarters of the Serbian Office for Kosovo and Metohija by its director, Marko Djuric. Djuric complained to Primakov about what he called the difficult situation of Serbs in the area.

Primakov, who is also assistant to Duma president, one of the two houses of the Parliament in Moscow, said that his NGO is currently committed to support Serbian healthcare institutions in what he called, Kosovo and Metohija. Primakov added that the NGO also helps refugees and displaced persons from Kosovo, who, according to him, are estimated to 247,000, most of them Serbs.
