Zoran Zaev, Prime Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), has arrived in Pristina and met with Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. Following the meeting, Zaev posted on Facebook: “the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo have positive and constructive relations and cooperate on all levels,” Zaev posted on Facebook. He said during the day he will meet Assembly President Kadri Veseli and President Hashim Thaci “as leaders of two countries that have no open issues”. “We are here to go one step further: to seek new opportunities for promoting and furthering our bilateral relations. I am happy that I am the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia to visit Kosovo,” Zaev said. He told reporters after meeting Haradinaj that neither he nor Haradinaj provoked the Kumanovo incident and that they have agreed on an international investigation into the fighting so that the citizens will know the truth. “The truth must be known. This is in the interest of both countries. It is a sensitive matter. It is our internal matter. There were killings during the fighting. There will be an international investigation in order to know the truth,” Zaev said. Haradinaj said after the meeting: “This is an important visit. We are neighbors. The Euro-Atlantic perspective unites us. Today we have helped further our relations and we have taken over many obligations that I believe we will be able to finalize in the future meetings of our governments”. Zaev also said Kosovo can count on Macedonia’s support for membership of UNESCO. “We will also help in the normalization of relations with Serbia because it too is a neighboring country,” he added. All online media cover Zaev’s meeting with Kosovo Assembly President Kadri Veseli, highlighting the latter’s remarks about good relations between the two countries. Veseli also said Kosovo follows the policy of good neighborly relations and cooperation as the only way of achieving joint objectives and ensuring the free movement of people, goods and joint investments in the region. He said Kosovo is close to finishing the Arben Xhaferri highway from Pristina to the border with Macedonia, which will facilitate the communication between people and trade. Zaev said his government would soon start building the highway from Skopje to the border with Kosovo.
