Serbian Patriarch Irinej told the Belgrade based daily Danas that “there will be no extraordinary session of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), but most likely the regular May session will be waited” in which Kosovo will be one of the main topics.”
According to the patriarch’s words, “only three requests arrived, while to convene the extraordinary session, is required majority of more than half,” of the number of the highest Hierarchical and Ecclesiastical body of the SPC.
Yesterday in Belgrade media reported that in the past two months six Bishops have requested an extraordinary session. In high church circles, it was unofficially explained to Danas that it is a matter of demands that more bishops submitted last year, when they asked for a regular autumn session of the Assembly to be held, in which the SPC would take a unique position on Kosovo, which are still open. The first request, according to the sources of Danas daily, submitted for Kosovo the competent bishop of Raska-Prizren Theodosije, had support of five bishops.
