UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres is “concerned” over indicators of deterioration of Belgrade-Pristina relations, in particular following arrest of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija Director, Marko Djuric, KIM Radio reported.
According to KIM Radio, Gutteres termed “as concerning the conduct of Kosovo police during that action.”
UN Head also urged both sides to avoid inflammatory statements, it was said in a quarterly report.
Only three persons have returned to Kosovo in the last three months, KIM Radio further said.
“I am concerned over indicators of deterioration of the Belgrade-Pristina relations, in particular following the arrest of Marko Djuric, Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Director on March 26. I urge both sides to avoid provocative actions and refrain from inflammatory statements,” the report reads.
UN SC member states’ ambassadors would discuss this report in May. Previous sessions were marred with harsh discussions on the future format of the sessions, with Great Britany, USA and France pledging for sessions to be held twice a year or behind closed doors.
Guterres also warned on the conduct of Kosovo police during arrest of Marko Djuric, in which several persons were injured saying it represents “a cause of concern” and called for “detailed investigation” about this event, adding that “corrective measures” related to human rights violations are needed.
He is also concerned over slow pace of Oliver Ivanovic murder investigation, adding that “mutual doubts and feeling of insecurity represent an obstacle in building trust among communities in Kosovo.”
“It seems that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, mediated by EU, entered a new impasse. I appeal to both sides to give a new impetus to the dialogue in order to implement all agreements reached so far,” Guterres said.
He also welcomed the decision of the Kosovo Parliament to ratify agreement on demarcation with Montenegro, warning on obstructions by some MPs.
In part of the report referring to EULEX, it was noted that the Special Court for KLA crimes investigators have continued investigation on allegations related to “inhuman treatment and illegal organ harvesting,” KIM Radio reported.
