Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman for the European Union, said today they are informed about Kosovo President Hashim Thaci’s decision to announce early elections in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo. Asked about an eventual boycott of the elections by the Serbian List, Kocijancic did not comment specifically but said they are following the situation on the ground. “We are informed about the announcement of local elections on May 19 and we are in contact with our people and partners on the ground,” she said. Kocijancic also commented on dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia saying that the best way forward would be for the two sides to resume and intensify talks. “The region needs reconciliation, normalization and a comprehensive agreement, and the resolution of all unresolved issues … The European Union will continue to work on this at all levels,” she added.
