The latest report in BIRN’s Last Despatches series, about journalists and media workers killed during and after the Yugoslavia wars, tells the story of Afrim Maliqi, who was shadowed by unknown men and then killed in 1998.
“When we said goodbye to each other, he came back, tapped on the metal banister of the stairs with a coin and asked me, ‘Do you need me for anything? Because I’m leaving.’”
This is how Sevdie Maliqi recalls her final conversation with her husband, Afrim Maliqi, a Kosovo journalist who was killed on December 2, 1998, in Pristina, in a car with two Kosovo Liberation Army guerrillas.
