Former United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Brian Hoyt Yee, said today that the meeting between Serbia and Kosovo presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emanual Macron on April 29, is not crucial to the process of the dialogue, but it is a good opportunity to discuss “and something new will happen”. Hoyt Yee said “the history books” in the Balkans are full of “now or never” but that the Berlin meeting is not one of those moments. “Germany and other countries should organize such meetings and discuss the future steps. I hope there will be honest and detailed discussions about the next steps of Serbia and Kosovo and that something new will happen … I think the history of divisions along ethnic lines is not a good, pragmatic, political or diplomatic idea … There is no sense in discussing this,” he added.
