At a time when pressures on the media are stronger than ever – if often more subtle and less physical than before – it is vital for those of us who see our work as serving the public interest to stand together.
Worsening trends in media freedom and security of journalists registered in EU Progress Reports often go unnoticed. But these declines can be measured not only in terms of getting access to official documents, or feeling “free” in the work place, but also in the feeling of freedom beyond the newsroom walls – and in being able to report without being censored or self-censored.
