Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said last night Pristina’s claims that Interpol General Assembly would consider Kosovo request to join this organization are inaccurate, Tanjug news agency reported.
He added claims by the Pristina officials represent pressure on members of the Executive Committee and they happen at the moment while the session is still ongoing.
Stefanovic told Tanjug it is about a meeting where the final decision on the agenda of the Interpol General Assembly is not made and members of the Executive Committee are only being acquainted with the request.
The final agenda and a decision whether Kosovo request would be part of it would be known only two days prior to the General Assembly session that takes place in October this year, Stefanovic explained.
“Despite of such impermissible pressure on the members of the Executive Committee, we would continue to strongly fight to protect the international law and our national interests. We will defend the sovereignty of Serbia, but also the integrity of Interpol,” Stefanovic underlined.
He noted the defeat in Dubai last year obviously was not enough to the Pristina officials to realize that pressure cannot be stronger than international law and Interpol rules.
“We will continue our legal fight, which we never ceased. All Interpol members would once more be updated why the politicization of this organization would have a hampering effect on its future work and entire security in the world,” Stefanovic said.
