President of Albania, Ilir Meta, said in an interview with RTV21 that Albania should not be involved in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina on normalisation of relations.
“The issue is how can the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue end in the best possible way for both countries but also for the region as it is a crucial issue that could either speed up or slow down all European processes of our region.”
Meta said he has always supported active relations between Albania and Serbia and underlined the importance of bilateral cooperation. “However, I have stated before and still do even firmer: Albania cannot be part of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Albania recognises independence of Kosovo and its institutions and is one of the first countries to have done so, but dialogue with Serbia is a topic for the institutions of Kosovo. Any interference of Albania in this dialogue or certain topics of this dialogue practically undermines independence and the legitimacy of these institutions,” he said.
