Most news websites report that Elez Blakaj, a former prosecutor that worked on sensitive cases of terrorism and alleged abuses in the list of KLA war veterans and who left Kosovo after receiving threats, took to Facebook on Thursday evening after his name was mentioned by several candidates in the election campaign. Blakaj said he does not want to become part of any campaign or politics, but that he would support any action by anyone that would be in the service of justice and improving the judiciary in Kosovo. Commenting on pledges made by political parties for the rule of law and the fight against corruption, Blakaj said “everything the political parties need to do about justice today is to stop doing what they have done so far and to display political readiness for a vetting process by independent international experts”.
