Opposition parties in Kosovo, except for the Vetevendosje Movement, are no ready to bring down the current government. After today’s meeting of the parliament presidency, heads of parliamentary groups expressed different opinions about the possible downfall of the government.

Parliament Speaker Jakup Krasniqi did not give a concrete answer, saying that everything depends on parliamentary groups. “Analysts prepare such analysis. We do not prepare analysis. This all depends on political parties and groups in Kosovo,” Krasniqi said.

LDK parliamentary group chief Ismet Beqiri said his party is in a position to bring down the government and that they are working on this. “We will take our time. We certainly do not start something that we cannot finish. We will do this whenever we deem appropriate, but we will not announce any deadlines. This is not an individual decision for the head of the parliamentary group, the decision needs to come from the party. We are making all assessments and we will announce our position when the time is right,” Beqiri added.

Vetevendosje’s Visar Ymeri said bringing down the Thaci government was their goal from the beginning. On the other hand, AAK parliamentary group chief Ardian Gjini said now is not the right time to bring down the government because the latter is degrading itself on a daily basis. “There are several reasons why we should not bring down this government. First, we are trying to change the election code. The issue is now with the legislation committee and we’ll see what happens next. We have stressed on several occasions that it is important to change the election code. Another reason is that even where there was a united opposition front it lacked 61 votes in parliament. An additional reason is that the current government is already making huge steps toward degradation. It has degraded and we don’t know if it will be able to govern the country,” Gjini said.

Adem Grabovci, head of the PDK parliamentary group, said the opposition wanted to end the PDK governance from the beginning. “The opposition always wants to come to power and this is normal and democratic. We have been hearing the same statements from them for four years. I believe we will be hearing for another four years. In my opinion, the ruling coalition is very stable. We have stable institutions. We had other governments in the past and several political parties were part of those governments. But one needs to look at the situation on the ground. I say with full responsibility that this country and nation has never seen more positive changes than during the PDK governing mandate,” Grabovci told reporters.
