EULEX Chief, Bernd Borchardt said to the Mitrovica based Radio Kontakt Plus that, so far, 400,000 euros were collected in the Fund for the Kosovo North and reiterated that the EULEX Customs officers and Border police officers are present at the crossings in northern Kosovo.

In addition, there is also video surveillance through which is monitored what is happening at these crossings, said Borchardt commenting on doubts expressed by the mayors from northern Kosovo, according to which money instead in fund will end somewhere else.

“We have carried out checks through these cameras and, so far, we have not found anything significant,” said Borchardt.  He added that EULEX now supports Kosovo customs in campaign of informing people ‘how to report possible frauds through cell phones’.

“We will continue to work with the Kosovo Customs on measures to combat corruption. You know that a large part of the budget is financed from the customs revenue, so that the fight against corruption in this area is of paramount importance,” said Borchardt.

Fund for the Development of Northern Kosovo was formed on the basis of the Brussels agreement.  The main revenues of the Fund are duties on goods, which from central Serbia enter northern Kosovo, through crossings Jarinje and Brnjak.
