Central Election Commission (CEC) rejected a bit more than a half out of 25.433 Serb’s applications out of Kosovo for registration in the electoral roll. Around 9.000 thousand persons have appealed  CEC’s decision, whereas in next two days it will be known whether they will be enrolled, in the end,  in the electoral roll.

After they were informed that CEC has rejected their applications, they had a very short deadline, only 24 hours, to appeal that decision. Out of 12,532 rejected applications, 9.167 appeals of Serbs who live out of Kosovo were received by the Appeals Panel in the period 29-31 May.

The chairperson of the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel Shukri Sulejmani said that each appeal will be reviewed and that all appellants will be informed in due time.

“We are only interested in the basis of the appeal. In any case we’ll forward the decision to every single appellant. Not only that we’ll inform them in due time, but we’ll inform CEC, in order that they could emergently enroll in the electoral roll those whose appeals have been accepted. Thus, those whose appeals will be accepted will have the right to vote. I can’t say at the moment, how many appeals will be accepted, because we are in the phase of reviewing. Public will be informed on time,” said Sulejmani.

Panel reminded that their decisions are compulsory for the CEC, however they underlined technical problems they are faced with due to short deadlines, since they are due to reply on appeals within 72 hours after they are received. Thus the destiny of more than eight thousand applications will be known on Monday afternoon.
