In a statement issued today, the Kosovo Police has denied reports it is involved in various scenarios relating to security and political developments in Kosovo. The statement, covered by majority of online media, reads: “Kosovo Police, as one of the main law enforcement institution, is reacting towards statements and reports from certain media outlets and online news websites claiming Kosovo Police’s involvement in different scenarios and for the sake of correct and fair information it is stating to the citizens of the country that such statements and reports are unfounded and damaging as they contribute to increase of tensions and insecurity among the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. We confirm that the overall duties and authorisations of the Kosovo Police are set out by the Law on Police and include: to protect the life, property and offer safety for all people; to protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all citizens; to guarantee freedom of movement and expression for all citizens; to manage and control state border; to provide assistance during natural disasters and other emergencies. We therefore encourage everyone, particularly citizens, not to fall prey to misinformation and different speculations but continue to have faith in the work of the Kosovo Police and its constitutional and legal commitment for overall order, peace and security in the country.”
