Kosovo’s Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli, said on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy that democracy represents the best model of governing in the human political history, as it manages to ensure a governing which does not violate the highest value of an individual and societies – freedom. “We believe in this idea therefore we have chosen to be part of the democratic world, synonym of which are the United States of America, North-Atlantic Alliance and the European Union…” Veseli said.
“It is exactly this dimension that we sometimes forget. Our mouths are full of democracy, and on the other hand we do things which do not correspond with the practical spirit of democracy. While I am saying this, I am talking precisely about our political scene, which is for quite some time now, having serious difficulties to overcome harmful party polarization,” he said.
Veseli added that political distinctions in democracy are legal, but when they do not conclude with consensus, they transform into danger for democratic order.
“I mentioned these principals, to reach to the current issue of the dialogue with Serbia. We should sit and find a joint language in facing the challenges of this dialogue,” he said adding that the spirit of mutual exclusion leads to a dead end.
“Raised dilemma over the danger of division of Kosovo do not stand. Realistically speaking, they are not our dilemmas. They are traps of the opponents of our freedom and independence. Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state. Declaration of Independence of 17 February is a sacred declaration of our population. Therefore, as such, it is untouchable. Kosovo has its own territorial integrity, internationally recognized. It has its own constitution, and no one has the mandate to make decisions which are in contradiction with its basic principles,” Veseli said
