Serbian European Integrations Minister, Jadranka Joksimovic and Head of the European Union Delegation in Belgrade, Sem Fabrizi said today that an agreement on the deployment of Frontex along Serbia’s borders is being negotiated and could be signed soon, TV N1 reported.

EU Delegation chief Sem Fabrizi said that he believes an agreement on Frontex could be signed during a visit to Serbia by European Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos to Serbia, adding it will be a comprehensive agreement on the manner in which the EU’s Frontex border service will work with the Serbian border police.

He said the EU has already signed agreements on cooperation in implementing EU migration policies with other countries in the Western Balkans.

European Integrations Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said the Internal Affairs Ministry has been negotiating an agreement on cooperation with Frontex for some time.

She said that Serbia is already working with Frontex in the context of countries whose nationals enjoy visa free travel to Serbia but not to the EU, adding that Serbia and Frontex have a joint team at Belgrade airport.

Earlier, a senior Internal Affairs Ministry denied a Deutsche Welle report that an agreement had already been reached.
