Statistics about domestic violence show that the cases are increasing each year.  It has been ten years since the Law on prevention of domestic violence came into power. From 2008 up to date, over 15 women have been killed, over twenty thousand others reported violence in the family, while 68 percent of women faced violence of different forms.

Statistics about the domestic violence show that number of cases is increasing each year, and it was violence that lead some of these cases end with fatality.

According to Kosovo Police, only during the first six months of 2018, 628 cases of domestic violence have been recorded. Each case is treated based on procedures and proceeded to justice bodies.

Captain Tahire Haxholli, head of the Unit for investigation on domestic violence at Kosovo Police, told Radio Kosova that awareness among women has increased and they are reporting cases. “There is not a single reporting of a victim, especially women, who claim that violence occurred for the first time and this is why I addressed Kosovo Police,” Hoxholli said.

However, there are many cases when justice did not manage to defend women. Despite the reporting, they became victims of their husbands’ violence,” Hoxholli said.

“We perhaps did not have for years such a big number of murders as during these six months…there are six-seven cases,” she added. Each year, there is an increase of 100 reported cases of domestic violence.
