Pristina journalist Violeta Oroshi says, in the TV show ‘Slobodno Srpski’, that politicians from Kosovo are not responsible enough towards the public, as well as that in communication with the media, are not aware of their obligations towards citizens.
Unlike politicians in the western countries, who consider the media as a very important mean of democracy and tend to be very responsible to their voters, there is no such sense of responsibility among our politicians, and, secondly, they use the media to promote their ideas, said Oroshi in Slobodno Sprki.
She noted that lately press conferences are no longer press conferences. Journalists are invited, they sat down, expect that after the introductory speech of some politicians they would have an opportunity to ask the question but very often happens that they are not given such an opportunity.
”Whether they want it or not, but they have become only a tool in the hands of a certain politician at a certain moment, and for the promotion.”
Oroshi, who is also a media pedagogue, as an advice and a way to exit such situations, tells young colleagues to be persistent, patient and use a somewhat boring but very important sentence for journalistic ethics: “We asked, but we did not get an answer.”
Commenting on the current political situation in Kosovo and the inter-party struggles of the authorities and the opposition, Violeta Oroshi does not expect significant changes in the next few months. This is supported by the announcement of the intra-party elections within the Democratic Party of Kosovo scheduled for December.
Oroshi says that Thaci’s initiative to correct the border with Serbia at this time was not a good idea, adding that it would surely cause disturbances and certain types of conflicts would arise among ordinary people.
Commenting on the role of the EU in resolving the accumulated conflicts and normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina, Violeta Oroshi, as a journalist who has been tracking current social political processes for decades, does not hide disappointment.
“I think the negotiations in Brussels have failed in some way. I cannot say that there were no results of these Brussels talks, but sometimes I wonder if these Brussels talks have been conducted to provide easier life here to people or have been led to make life more difficult for people. ”
According to her, although negotiations have shown that politicians are not honest enough, and the dialogue itself is not transparent, nor the “seventh power” did its best.
“Exactly so the media failed, because everyone is waiting outside and waiting for a statement. Albanian media mostly are forcing, and make complete statements, of their representative in the dialogue, Serbian media a Serb, and the others are mentioned somewhere along the way “.
Journalists, especially those who specifically monitor relations between Belgrade and Pristina, should be far more active.
