The situation of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities is alarming, was said at a meeting of the Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians (VoRAE) and KOSINT network, held with the MPs of Kosovo Assembly, KOSINT network, and Ambassador of Finland, Pia Stjernvall. Isak Skenderi from VoRAE said this meeting intends advocacy and integration, due to the awareness of the current marginalized situation of RAE community. “According to a report, 92 percent of Roma women are unemployed. The situation of the community is alarming. The intention of this meeting is to reduce the gap and ensure an equal environment in Kosovo,” he said.

Jehona Xhaferi from KOSINT said organizations which work for RAE community have already united to make more impact on their advocacy.

“I believe that in the future, we will also work in an individual manner knowing that you are busy, but it is worth of hearing your voice,” she told the MPs.

Kosovo Assembly MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Xhevahire Izmaku said the role of the MP is very important and added that they owe work for the communities. She said representatives of these communities at the Assembly of Kosovo should have been present at this meeting.

Mimoza Kusari-Lila from Alternativa said the only minority in Kosovo that was treated differently is the Serb community. “To us as a group, it is important to possess the figures, for instance of the graduated, those who have left school, to create the idea of the floe, we do have the will to help,” she said.

Vjosa Osmani, MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK,) said representatives of these communities should be present at this meeting and speak about the obstacles and demands. “We are at a phase when the Assembly is not functional, we are at a situation where we can discuss a little at the plenary sessions, but at committees, we can wait,” Osmani said.
