Eventual admission of the so-called Kosovo to Interpol would represent violation of the international law, Serbian Ministry of Interior State Secretary, Dijana Hrkalovic said, Tanjug news agency reported.
She also added, this would represent violation of a legally binding UN SC Resolution 1244.
According to the Ministry’s press statement, Hrkalovic made these remarks during the meeting with Morocco and Palestine ambassadors in Belgrade, Mohammed Amine Belhaj and Mohammed K.M. Nabhan. She also presented to them the stance and arguments of the Republic of Serbia against the request of the so-called Kosovo to become a member of the world police organization.
She added that admission of Kosovo to Interpol would breach the rules and procedures of Interpol, which define membership criteria that only UN member states and observers can be members of this organization.
She also noted that eventual decision to accept Kosovo would represent political decision and precedent that could have unforeseen consequences for all the members of this organization and jeopardize the expert nature of Interpol.
Hrkalovic also thanked Morocco and Palestine for respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Republic of Serbia and their stances not to recognize unilateral declared independence of Kosovo.
