Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic said it is very important that the mandate of KFOR is implemented in line with UN SC Resolution 1244 and that its presence in Kosovo and Metohija remains unhindered, TV Most reports today.
Dacic underlined KFOR is an important guarantor of the Brussels agreement and it is important to be status neutral in carrying out its activities.
He made these remarks at the opening of the 6th NATO Week in Belgrade, adding that Serbia opposes transformation of Kosovo security forces into an army of Kosovo, since this would constitute violation of the UN SC Resolution 1244 and endanger regional stability.
“Pristina obviously does not give up on it, regardless it does not formally define it (army) as such. They are undertaking unilateral acts which are potential for instability,” Dacic said.
He underlined guaranties that Kosovo forces cannot enter the north of Kosovo, without consent of KFOR Commander, are important for Serbia, and that he expects KFOR to react preventively aiming to prevent actions in the north, since it has mandate for it.
“I expect clear condemnation of disrespecting the agreement and to tell which side violates the agreement, and not to urge both sides to show restraint,” Dacic said.
Speaking about what could NATO do to improve relations with Serbia, Dacic said it is to oppose the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces, to help in preserving cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as to help in reconstruction of objects destroyed during bombardment in 1999.
