Representatives of Kosovo business community and the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce have welcomed the introduction of a ten percent tax on all imports from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina while the EU has raised concerns that the decision is in violation to the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), Radio Free Europe in Albanian reports. Flamur Keqa, former director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry said Kosovo has rightfully imposed the tax. “The violation of CEFTA, primarily by Serbia, has become a routine and Kosovo has a right to protect its production, its economy,” Keqa said. He also said Kosovo has benefited the least from CEFTA as it faced higher barriers in comparison to other countries. Head of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Berat Rukiqi, said meanwhile that the EU should have a uniform approach to all CEFTA members. “If we look at the markets around us, we see non-tariff barriers and there was never a strong reaction from Brussels,” Rukiqi said.
