Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said in New York there is yet no agreement on the frequency of Security Council sessions on Kosovo, BETA news agency reported.
“We want the agreement on dynamics of the sessions to be reached, but if it is not reached, then sessions would depend upon the country chairing over the Security Council in that month,” Dacic told RTS, following the SC session on Kosovo yesterday.
He also noted there was “a slight difference” comparing to the previous sessions, since now “some major world powers call for flexibility of all the sides involved in the dialogue, which was not the case before, when Serbia was just expected to recognize Kosovo.”
Dacic also stressed there are still invitations sent to the countries that have not recognized Kosovo to do so and vote for Kosovo to become a member of Interpol, adding that Belgrade is facing “strong lobbying from western countries.”
Dacic underlined membership of Kosovo in Interpol “is a status matter” and that Pristina “does not want to join Interpol in order to fight against the crime, but to show it is an independent state, on an equal basis with Serbia.”
However, there is no longer the precise number of countries that recognize Kosovo “since nobody disputed my thesis that ten countries revoked recognition of Kosovo,” Dacic emphasized, and assessed that number of states recognizing Kosovo “would get even smaller” over the time.
Dacic also met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and told him it is of utmost importance for Serbia that the topic of Kosovo and Metohija remains at the focus of the UN Security Council.
Dacic and Guterres also discussed about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and importance of the role of UNMIK in building lasting peace, stability and security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement.
According to the statement, SG Guterres “reaffirmed the UN position, defined by respecting UN SC Resolution 1244, and in this context continuation of UNMIK’s engagement in Kosovo.”
Head of the Serbian diplomacy also informed SG Guterres about the course of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, the statement concluded.
