Kosovo did not gain enough votes (103) required for membership. In the first round of voting, Kosovo gained 73 votes, 56 were against and 22 abstained. In the second round, 68 votes were for and 51 against.
The government of Kosovo has issued a press release expressing deep disappointment for not becoming part of this international security organization.
“Today, the INTERPOL General Assembly, at its 87th session voted against the membership of Kosovo Police in this organization.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo expresses its deep disappointment that Kosovo has been unable to be part of the world’s police family, which fights transnational crime.
The fierce campaign of the Republic of Serbia once again proved its character against Kosovo and against the idea of normalizing relations with the Republic of Kosovo, taking into consideration that this membership was technical and not political.
Voting against accepting Kosovo in this international organization only serves crime and criminals and no one should rejoice at this fact.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo would like to thank all the countries that voted for, as well as all those who tried to help Kosovo in this important process.
Kosovo will continue to consolidate its institutions and in the near future will be a full member of INTERPOL,” reads the press release.
