In an interview with the Austrian paper Kurier, President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci said that a lasting agreement with Serbia is “absolutely necessary” but one which would not guarantee Kosovo a seat at the UN and global recognition would have no meaning. “If we do not seize this momentum now, it would lead to a worsening of the situation,” he said. Asked whether territorial exchange is still on the table of talks between Kosovo and Serbia, Thaci said the final agreement will be comprehensive and will include a range of issues: “There will be no border on ethnic lines. Both countries will remain multiethnic.” On the issue of import tax on Serbian products, Thaci said that Kosovo was forced to take such measures. “We will do our best not to complicate the dialogue, but Serbia must not set conditions for the continuation of the dialogue. I hope the blockade will soon end,” he underlined.
