The United States finds itself in an awkward position concerning the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue on one hand and the special criminal tribunal in The Hague on the other.
The US, one of Kosovo’s primary supporters and benefactors, is an ardent supporter of both, but it may prove difficult to harmonise the two initiatives. Recent events highlight the potential conflict.
In November 2018, President Hashim Thaci made an official visit to Washington where he met with high-level officials of the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton, as well as members of the US Congress. He even travelled to Texas to meet with former president George W. Bush.
