Transparency International has released its latest public perception of corruption index with Kosovo scoring 37 points and dropping from 85th place last year to 93rd presently. The index covered a total of 180 countries and territories using a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being highly corrupt and 100 very clean. According to Kosovo Democratic Institute which presented the findings today 37 points Kosovo scored are still under the global average level of 43 points. “Kosovo’s poor ranking in this year’s index is mainly attributed to fragile rule of law institutions, high level of corruption impunity, lack of accountability on the part of public officials, insufficient transparency and the narrowing down of space for citizen participation,” said KDI’s Arben Kelmendi. KDI officials said Kosovo needs to urgently address issues relating to independence of the judiciary, fight of corruption, and public procurement practices.
