Koha Ditore columnist Adriatik Kelmendi recalls an anecdote attributed to the former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger who asked: “Who do I call if I want to call Europe?” and draws a parallel with the current situation in Kosovo characterized by ‘cacophony’ and ‘lack of unity’. “Today, it can be said in an unreserved and unhesitant way that Kosovo has no position at all. With each institutional and party leader speaking for oneself, it turns out no one is speaking on behalf of Kosovo,” Kelmendi writes adding that this is the most dangerous situations Kosovo has experienced in the last thirty years or so.   He remarks that never has Kosovo been better positioned to get its voice across and yet it is unable to do so due to it having ‘5-6 addresses’ and ‘over 10 stances’. Of four political parties that share power in Kosovo, none of them share the same view on the issues of dialogue with Serbia and import tax on Bosnia and Herzegovina. “And while all the rest are muddying the local waters, President Thaci it seems has put himself in an entirely different level. A perfect trap for the fish like Veseli and Haradinaj, Mustafa and Kurti, Limaj and Ahmeti,” Kelmendi says. He considers that all the options Thaci is speaking of, including unification of two Mitrovica municipalities, Presevo Valley joining Kosovo, or Albanian national unification, are in conflict to the Ahtisaari status package, Contact Group principles, and the Constitution of Kosovo. “For this reason, while the others are pushing and shoving, agree and fall out, make and break coalitions and alliances, he [Thaci] maintains correspondence with none other than the President of the U.S., Donald Trump. He shakes hands with Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Sends greetings from the best seats in ceremonies in Paris and Washington,” Kelmendi observes. He says that if political parties fail to unite their posts, the only one unaffected will be Hashim Thaci: “In such a situation, he would remain the person on the other side of the telephone, the only address which can be spoken to when it comes to Kosovo.”
