A research carried out by the National Democratic Institute from Washington has found that most Serbian citizens have positive opinion about Russia and China, while the most negative opinion is about US and NATO, Vecernje Novosti reported.

The research “Western Balkans between East and West” was carried out in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and focused on stances of the citizens and media reporting on foreign states and organizations.

Around 60 percent of respondents had positive opinion about Russia, while 11 percent had a negative stance. 56 percent had positive opinion about China, while the percentage of those with negative stance was 11.

When it comes to NATO, 83 percent of respondents had negative opinion, and only 4 percentage had positive opinion about NATO.

58 percent of citizens had negative opinion about US, while 15 percentage had positive. Regarding the EU, 41 percentage had positive opinion, and 27 percentage had a negative opinion. Support for the EU membership was strongest in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia around 70 percent, and weakest in Serbia around 45 percent.

Serbs and Montenegrins believe Russia is more powerful than NATO, while Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina believe NATO is superior. Only 6 percentage of Serbs would vote for Serbia’s membership to NATO, while 80 percentage would be against it, Vecernje Novosti reported.
