Publicist and author, Veton Surroi, took to Facebook to comment on developments surrounding EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic’s remarks that the Trepca mining complex should be discussed in the Kosovo – Serbia dialogue in Brussels. Surroi wrote: “the European Commission’s request for Trepca’s status to be part of negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia is a natural result of the guiding principles that Kosovo has agreed to so far. For seven years now, Kosovo has agreed to talk with Serbia, and to agree on the way Kosovo’s municipalities are organized (the Association of Serb Municipalities), on the nationality of the police commander and the appeals judge in Mitrovica North and the height of the roundabout wall in the northern part of the city of Mitrovica. For Ms. Mogherini’s office it is clear that if Kosovo agreed to talk and agree on all these issues which should be part of Kosovo’s sovereignty, then it will agree to talk about Trepca too. This is a good lesson for Kosovo’s political spectrum why it should move from a negotiating process of ‘normalization’ to a negotiating process of a ‘comprehensive agreement’ by evaluating the course of the process so far and with new guiding principles”.
