Albanian Prime Minister Ilir Meta, in an interview to Deutsche Welle, commented on talks between Kosovo and Serbia saying that coordination between the United States of America and the European Union in the process is key. “I always believe in dialogue, in the motive and inspiration for dialogue to be successful, this requires the engagement of both sides and in this case it concerns a common European future. I also want to emphasize, as in the case of [North] Macedonia, the coordination between the U.S. and the EU as it was crucial in facilitating and encouraging a successful agreement with Greece,” Meta said. “I believe that in this case too cooperation between the U.S. and Germany is very important in reaching an agreement that not only guarantees long-term peace and stability in the region, but also the European future of both countries, Serbia and Kosovo”. Asked to comment on proposals to give Albanian passports to Kosovo residents, Meta said this is not the solution. “This is not the solution, because Albania, although it has received visa liberalization it is still monitored in terms of respecting the obligations from the process … The citizens of Kosovo have their passports, their state which is recognized by 23 EU member states and they have received a promise. And this promise must be kept because visa liberalization was a technical process and they [Kosovo] have met more requirements than any other country in the Western Balkans, including Albania”.
