European Commission President, Jean Claude Juncker, said in Brussels today that countries of the Western Balkans need a clear perspective for membership into the European Union, otherwise the whole region risks going back to the 1990s. Juncker made these remarks at a meeting with Slovenian President Borut Pahor about the perspective of EU membership for Balkans countries. “If these countries do not become members of the EU, we face the risk of going back to the 1990s. I think it is a matter of war or peace,” Juncker was quoted as saying.
