Challenges faced by journalists in this local community, and even beyond, are such that the audience does not expect to hear the truth and cannot distinguish between lies and truth. This was concluded in a discussion held on Monday at the EU Info Center in Mitrovica North, and panelists were journalists Tatjana Lazarevic and Idro Seferi.

Editor-in-Chief of KoSSev news portal Tatjana Lazarevic said, inter alia, that the term “post-truth”, which was chosen in 2016 as the word of the year by the Oxford Dictionary, was popular in the previous period, because in her view, it means that a fact withdraws before the emotions and then a fact is no longer important for the journalist’s report, but only the personal experience and emotions of the journalist become important.

“However, we are no longer in the post-truth period. In the last two years, we have encountered globally the fabrication of reality. We are witnessing these phenomena,” Lazarevic noted. She went on saying that “the image of our contemporary, current world is fake, beautified in the same way as a photo from Instagram that went through the filters and on top of it all it’s instantaneous. The essence of journalistic work is to report truthfully, timely, that this topic is in focus.”

A native of Pec, TV Klan reporter in Belgrade Idro Seferi said that if one is engaged in journalism, one has to be persistent and tenacious to see the results, because there are many barriers and obstacles that need to be overcome.

“I think the biggest challenge or problem the journalists still face is the fact that we do not have a more intense communication and of course it can be a problem, because access to that information on the other side is not always easy. It’s important that we do not translate the news but make them from the spot” Seferi said.

The discussion was held within the framework of the program “Inspirational talks” under the title “Challenges of the modern society faced by journalists”.
