Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj commented on his statement over the weekend that Kosovo’s Ambassador to the U.S., Vlora Citaku, has not been representing Kosovo but rather its president, Hashim Thaci. Haradinaj said today that in certain cases Citaku did not accurately represent Kosovo’s positions. “When there are misunderstandings with Washington there is grounded suspicion that she [Citaku] did not represent the real picture,” Haradinaj is quoted as saying today in a visit to Gjilan. “If there is cooling off of relations with the U.S. we all have a share of responsibility, including the ambassador.”

Citaku reacted to Haradinaj’s initial statement saying she never spoken outside her mandate. In a Facebook post, Citaku wrote: “Never in my life have I worked against the interests of my country and my nation.” She said it was not her fault “there is no political consensus in Kosovo on important issues” but that she never spoke outside her mandate. “I have done and continue to do everything in my power to preserve and foster relations between Kosovo and the U.S.” “I am Ambassador of Kosovo. And Ramush Haradinaj is my Prime Minister,” Citaku concluded.
