On 24 March 1999, Western powers dropped bombs on the federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which had dwindled since 1992 to Serbia and Montenegro. For the first time in its history, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) entered into a war against a sovereign nation that didn’t threaten any of its members or neighbours.
