Deputy leader of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hajredin Kuci, who is one of the authors of the Kosovo Constitution, said the agreement reached between opposition parties is anti-constitutional.

In a show for Klan Kosova, Kuci said that recent developments have put Kosovo into a hasty political stage. He insisted that the candidate for prime minister should be Hashim Thaci as he won 8 June parliamentary elections. “At the time of drafting the Constitution, we considered that if the winning party fails to form a government, new elections would have to be organised”, Kuci said.

“In the first stage, the testing is done with the winner which is the candidate. If the first party fails with the first candidate, it goes with another and if this also fails, elections are next. I want to be clear, the mandate should belong to the winning party”, said Kuci.

“We knew there were talks but we did not know they would lead to irrationality. I thought Mustafa would seek the post of prime minister but I did not believe he would agree to come out the third”.

Kuci added that the PDK was waiting for certification of results before starting coalition negotiations. “PDK is ready to govern and if this does not happen, it is also ready to again head to elections”.
