The end of July expected to shatter Kosovo: indictments for war crimes, organized crime and corruption (Gazeta Blic)
Based on international sources in Pristina, Gazeta Blic reports that Kosovo will be shaken during the last week of June and the entire August, as never before since the 1999 conflict, due to the pressed charges and arrests of former and current Ministers and deputies. "Majority of them are key figures in Kosovo’s politics," these sources reportedly said in condition for their identity to remain unrevealed. The source said that party leaders, especially Mr. Hashim Thaci, have already received signs from the international friends for the arrests and establishment of the law and order in Kosovo.
“Mr. Thaci was especially aware on who of his colleagues should not be candidate for the recent elections, because he had their names on the table. How is he going to solve problems with them after the pressed charges, is his concern,” said the source.
“Prosecutor Williamson will present his report on the investigations based on Mr. Marty’s accusations, on 28 July. What we have done this time is that we have coordinated work with Mr. Williamson’s Task Force and based on the report, which partially gives right to Mr. Marty’s claims, especially on corruption and organized crime, we will proceed with charges for war crimes and organized crime,” said the source.
The reason why the international community is rushing is more than practical: in September, EULEX is expected to transfer majority of its competencies to the local justice system, to continue with more of an advisory role for their local colleagues. It remains unknown if these accusations are related to the current political situation in Kosovo.
