Citing unnamed sources, Kosovapress news agency reports that several people have brutally beaten Slobodan Vučinić, a key witnesses in the assassination of Kosovo Police special unit member Enver Zymberi. Zymberi was killed during a police operation in northern Kosovo in 2011. Sources told the news agency that Vučinić, who was beaten on June 12 in Zubin Potok, is in life-threatening condition and is receiving medical treatment in Belgrade. According to the same sources, “members of the Serbian Intelligence Service were involved in sending Vučinić to Belgrade and the goal is to eliminate him because he is a witness”. The source said: “the assault on Slobodan Vučinić was organized immediately after it was found out that he is a protected witness in the assassination of Enver Zymberi. One of the key organizers of the assault is believed to be Miodrag Lekić, member of the Kosovo Police in the north. Lekić is police captain and one of the most influential people in the police chain of command in the northern precinct”. The news agency recalls that Lekić, together with his brother Milan who is also a police officer in the north, were suspended several months from duty last year as a result of investigations against them related to Zymberi’s assassination.
