“The missing remain one of the gravest wounds which the war in Kosovo has left behind, whereas the resolving of the fate of the missing is one of the most urgent and most important tasks of all,” Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, said on the eve of the International Day of Missing Persons, August 30th. “The war has left many wounds, but the one of the missing is one of the most severe”, said President Thaçi, who added that this issue “burdens the families of the missing persons but also the whole society, the relations between the communities and the chances for a better future. It is an urgent necessity, humanitarian duty, obligation of all to clear up as soon as possible the fate of all the missing persons, regardless of their ethnicity”. Thaci also said that no day passes on which we do not remember the missing. “They look at us from the pictures hanging on the fence of the Assembly of Kosovo. Families call us. They are being reminded by the memorials we see on the streets of Kosovo. And, on days like August 30th, we commit ourselves to always, uninterrupted, ask and insist to clear up the fate of every citizen of Kosovo as soon as possible, for the families of the missing to find their peace,” he added. The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, concluded that “these pains that the war has caused are exactly our motivation to work, not to allow the war to be repeated but to always have peace, reconciliation and cooperation among all communities”.
