Mayor of Ferizaj, Muharrem Svarqa, has expressed concern over the increasing number of members from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian (RAE) community leaving the municipality and heading to western European countries. While understanding the difficult economic and social situation of these communities, Svarqa said that illegal departure from Kosovo is not the right way to resolve the problems which a large part of Kosovo citizens experience. Svarqa alleged that illegal emigration of RAE community members is likely to be facilitated and encouraged by Serbian structures in an attempt to damage Kosovo perspective for visa liberalization.

Svarqa called on relevant Kosovo institutions to look into the matter at hand and prevent all those who are enabling citizens from Ferisaj to leave to EU through illegal ways.
