Open letter to the commission for verification of war veterans (Zeri)

A former KLA commander and now director of Anti-Corruption Agency Hasan Preteni writes an open letter to the Kosovo Government Commission for the Recognition and Verification of the Status of KLA Veterans and other categories saying that the entire process of examining lists of KLA members has been seriously flawed and should be annulled. As a former KLA commander, Preteni claims that the establishment of the Commission was not publicly discussed and did not reflect the real needs. He says the Commission should base its work on the lists provided in 1999/2000 as they are the only ones that represent genuine information on who was actually involved in the KLA and in what capacity, whereas beyond that period, the lists underwent significant changes on daily basis. As a result, adds Hasani, the lists began to include people with little or no contribution in the KLA “based on the political agenda of state institutions.” He then goes on to list a number of cases which he says led to an enormous growth of participants in the war and based on these, Hasani concludes that the drafting of the KLA member lists was unnecessary, costly, damaging and, above all, unreal.
