The Brussels based correspondent of this daily, Augustin Palokaj, writes that the public opinion in Kosovo is recently dealing with an interview that the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, gave to the German public broadcaster, ZDF. “We call it a failed interview, because the German journalist did not receive an answer to the question that concerns the German opinion and the President also did not manage to convey her message, for which we do not know what it was,” Palokaj writes.
He further mentions different comments made on the issue, from those that the German state has insulted Kosovars, to those that such interview was required in order for Kosovars to understand that they do not have dignified leaders to represent them in the foreign media. “The comments were definitely exaggerated; however, this interview can be taken as a reason to analyze once again our political culture, where one can see a total ignoring of the media by our politicians. The problem is not why the ZDF journalist interrupted the interview with Atifete Jahjaga, being that she was not even closely dealing with the asked question. The problem stands in the fact that our media do not interrupt politicians who become deaf to the questions that deal with serious issues and who instead of answering, speak about their successes,” writes Palokaj.
“The population of Kosovo will have to bear the consequences of such behavior, because even this public appearance of the President, no matter if there were technical problems in communication or not, could be understood as lack of the readiness of Kosovo leadership to accept the serious problem of this state, where people are ready to risk a lot in order to leave,” concludes Palokaj.
